In December 2012, months after Twombly’s death in 2011, the Lexington studio was emptied. When McDonald received an unexpected invitation to see the space a final time, he thought to bring along a digital point-and-shoot camera. The final grouping of works in the exhibition at AnzenbergerGallery are prints based on those snapshots of the vacant space. Images spotlight traces of paint and markings, poignantly evoking both presence and absence.
