"High hopes" is the result of a three-year critical study of Sochi, the city that is to host the next Winter Olympics, and of the process of transformation and change that has taken place there over the past years.
 Since five years, high class resorts and winter sports facilities plus infrastructure have been built from scratch, ignoring unique nature reserves and grown villages. On one hand, the Olympic Games are offering an attractive perspective for the future, whilst, on the other hand, they are dramatically changing the living conditions of the people in the area: deterioration of the ecological situation, expropriation, forced resettlement. Parallel worlds emerge.
 The title "high hopes" is an allusion to the ambitious goals and high expectations that come with the Olympic Games.  The Olympics however play only a marginal role. For me much more important is the question of the younger generation and their view on things of the future and what the Olympics can offer to them: will it remain a vision or will it become reality?
