Since 2005 Frank Robert is continuously working on his still life series. He creates simple and minimalist settings consisting of several ivory-colored boards. These spaces work as a stage for his still lifes. He combines objects deriving from different environments. No limits are set here. Nevertheless, Robert uses recurring ingredients, forming a consistent thread throughout his work: colored foams, old board games, pictures from magazines, flowers, grapes, tea, rub-off letters, roots, animals, photographic color cards and much more. These very diverse objects are woven together, but do not react upon each other in a known manner. Robert’s photographs are not readable in a simple sense interpretation, and that is part of the concept: the visible structure of the objects is significant, the materiality of things is shown. Through this „disorientation“ the viewer needs to look at the picture in a new way. The normal world of things is questioned.
