Through a suite of 10 large-scale photographs Under Pressure illustrates a portrait of women playing endless parts in our unstable society. Guia Besana investigates the idea of “tension” and what coping with this tension entails in our society, a society which persistently solicits us with contradictory messages and roles we must assume. Each image describes a core theme, which is intentionally suggested through symbolic metaphors. Women are directed to represent or translate, into a mise-en-scène, a specific condition or conflicting thought. This new work is the most recent chapter of an on-going photographic project exploring feminine introspections.
